Review of Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd is an eccentric and popular multi-platinum band of rock era, which has made some exceptional cinematic sound effects in their albums “Wish You were Here”, “Meddle” and “Dark Side of the Moon”. It is a famous English rock band who got popular through their psychedelic music during late 1960s and for the progressive rock music during the 1970s after they emerged into a popular band. They are reputed for using philosophical lyrics, very good album arts, amazing live shows and sonic experimentation. They have sold more than 200 million albums overall, which includes seventy four million certified units in US alone.

This band was formed during 1965 with university students namely Bob Klose, Nick Mason, Roger water, Syd Barret and Richard Wright. The group has a great fixture on underground music scene in London and they released to singles “See Emily Play” and “Amold Layne” under leadership of Barret. Their commercial success came with the album “The Piper at the gates of dawn”. David Gilmour a famous singer and Guitarist joined the line-up during 1968 and they removed Barrett from the band owing to his erratic behavior. After the departure of Barret, Roger Waters, who was the singer and bass player became the most powerful figure in the band after which they achieved commercial success with concept albums like Rock opera The wall, Wish You were here, Animals and The Dark Side of the Moon.

Wright quit the band during 1979 and then Waters during the year 1985, but Mason and Gilmour (Along with Wright) continued to record and tour under their group name Pink Floyd. Waters sought some legal means for preventing them to use the name Pink Floyd, by stating that Pink Floyd is a spent force, but they reached a settlement from the court which allowed Mason, Wright and Gilmour to use the name Pink Floyd for music shows and recordings. The band got another big success with two albums “The Division Bell” and “A Momentary Lapse of Reason” during the year 1987 and Waters pursued as solo musician and he released 3 studio albums. Though the relation between remaining 3 member of crew and Waters was sour, the whole band performed at Live 8 which was a final performance with all four members of the group. “Meddle” which was released during year 1971, was the transition of band’s album from music techniques introduced by Barret to the Gilmour-Waters Floyd of 1970s which is highlighted by space rock “Echoes” over twenty three minutes of creative harmony vocals from Gilmour and waters, burbling organ music from Wright and drifting noises of whales.
