The Bee Gees

The Bee Gees were actually a trio of singing brothers namely Maurice Gibb, Robin and Barrry. The trio were victorious in most part of their 40 years of music recording, but they had 2 periods of extraordinary success as harmonic soft rock which came in late 1960s and during early 1970s and they were the top most music stars of the 1970s disco music era. The group has sung 3 part tight harmonies which can be recognized instantly. Robin’s clear lead in vibrato was their hallmark in earlier hits, but during the disco years, Barry’s R&B falsetto was more popular. The 3 brothers wrote together most of their hits as well as producing and writing few major hits along with other artists.

The three brothers were born to English parents in Isle of Man and they lived in Manchester, UK during their initial years and shifted to Brisbane in Australia where they started their music career. After their chart success initially in Australia, they returned to UK where Robert Stigwood, the produced introduced them to worldwide audience. It is said that they made a record sales of more than two hundred million albums making them the best selling music artists of all times.

The Bee gees got featured in Television shows during 1960s and in the few years they started to work regularly in Queensland coast resorts. Barry impressed with his songwriting skills, a famous Australian star Col Joye and he helped the group to get a record deal with Festival records during the year 1963 under the group name “Bee Gees”. They released 2 to 3 singles every year while barry was supplying more songs to various Australian artists. The album “Wine and Women” was a minor hit during the year 1965. Their song “Spicks and Specks” was titled number 1 in October 19966 by famous Australian music newspaper.

They were introduced to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during the year 1997 and the award given to them was “Britain’s 1st family of harmony” which was given Brian Wilson who was the leader of the band Beach Boys, the 1st family to introduce rock harmony in US. The citation of Hall of fame states that only Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Elvis Presley and The Beatles have outsold Bee gees. The sudden death of Maurice in 2003, brought an end to 45 year music recording activity of the group. In the month of September in 2009, Barry gibb and Robin Gibb have agreed that Bee Gees would be reformed and they shall perform again.
